Outomces this week
- Market research, an analysis of similar projects
- Planning User Research (methods, strategy, etc)
- Write User Research Questions
- Filling in Ethics Forms on Conducting User Research
- I also did coding this week but it will be documented in this post
1. Market Research
As I changed my project idea to focus on Indonesian cuisine, I reconducted a market research to see if there are similar applications to the one I am trying to make.
I have notice that there are a few food waste management application but have noticed that they do not accomodate Indonesian cuisine. Below is a comparison chart I made of similar products:
After scowering the internet, I have concluded that the app I am trying to make does not exist yet. Hence, there is an opportunity to actually fill in the market.

2. Planning User Research
After my tutorial with Lizzie, I realise that there is an opportunity for me to truly solidify my research by conductnig user research with my target users.
Lizzie has suggested to format my UR as a survey to help with efficiency as it would allow me to proceed with developing the back-end of the application while conducting research.
User Research Method
Due to location limitation (me being in London and my target users are Indonesian users) I have decided to conduct my user research as an online survey.Lizzie has suggested to format my UR as a survey to help with efficiency as it would allow me to proceed with developing the back-end of the application while conducting research.
3. User Research Question
After deciding to conduct my user research via a online survey, I started designing the questions:

- Complete this sentence, "Indonesia is best for its..."
- How often do you cook?
- What type of meals do you commonly cook?
- How many servings do you cook at a time?
- How often do you have leftovers?
- If you have leftovers, what do you do with them?
- How do you manage your household food & beverage inventory?
- What do you think about the "Ingredients Tracker" feature on these applications? Would you use it in your day-to-day? (I shoed the test participants this video of the features: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMuyiETWFbA)
- What do you think about integrating a "digital tool" into your cooking routine?
- What are your thoughts on food waste in Indonesia?

4. Filling in Ethics Forms on Conducting User Research
After creating writing the user research question, I reviewed it with Lizzie and fixed some questions that need clarity.
I started filling in the "UAL Educational Ethics Approval Form" and the "Participant Information and Consent".
I sent both forms to Lizzie and wait for her review and approval to conduct the user research.
In the "Participant Information and Consent" I made sure to mention to the user why I am conducting the survey (but without mentioning the specifics of my project - this is to ensure I get objective answers), which is for my graduation project, the research type (online survey), and how their data will be used.
